For my first Posting I think an introduction is in order. My name is Keith and I am a Crunchy-Con (insert AA style greeting here). My definition of Crunchy-Con is someone who has a conservative core with somewhat leftist leanings. In my case I have conervative views on education, crime, imigration and the culture as a whole. I am a strong advocate for the Second Ammendment as well as the growing concealed carry movement. I am the only gun toter at the farmers market (most of the time).
THE MEDIA
Yes our media culture is biased. No not in any Left/Right slant. The media is biased against deep thinking and rational thought. How else can you explain the rise of "reality TV", Jerry Springer and Hollywood gossip being used as a lead story on the news? I hardly ever have the TV on anymore. If I want local news I go out and talk to the neighbors.
THE SECOND AMMENDMENT
As I said earlier I am a staunch supporter of the right to keep and bear arms. While yo will never see me at any ranting and raving like Charleton Heston I do speak out on the subject when a good opportunity comes up. don't think ranting to people ever converts them to your cause
GOVERNMENT
We have the best group of legislators money can buy. When I shake hands with my congressman I count my fingers after. Then I check to see if my watch and wallet are still there. I am a strong proponent of term limits. Two terms and you're gone. Go back home to live under the laws you create. I believe the RICO laws should be used to prosecute the truly Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization: Congress. There is too much backdoor deals and sweetheart handshakes. Both parties are guilty of this. I belive that if a politician is found guilty of shady deals thenthey should be punished harshly. The death penalty sounds good. Good government comes only when our politicians are in fear of the people they represent. When you know that any bribes you take can land you in the gas chamber you are less inclined to take them.
THE ENVIRONMENT
I am a conservationist. Not in the tree hugging, kill no animals way. My brand of conservation is more rational. We are here to be good stewards of this planet. So far we haven't been. Raping the land to support a wasteful lifestyle is not good use of our natural resources. Our days of using fossil fuels are numbered...GET USED TO IT! No you will not be able to drive your Hummer. No you can't have that fifth McMansion. No you can't dump your toxic waste into my drinking water. However,you can demand that energy companies spend more on alternative energy. You can punish those that don't with tax penalties. Those that still refuse to go along can be shut down. Corporations are supposed to do right by the public. It's high time they do.
